Don’t Give Up
So I turned about and gave my heart up to despair over all the toil of my labors under the sun, because sometimes a person who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave everything to be enjoyed by someone who did not toil for it. This is also vanity and a great evil.
Ecclesiastes 2:20-21
My first thoughts after reading this verse:
- How could Solomon give up his heart to DESPAIR? Despair means “Without Hope” and sounds so desperate. But God doesn’t want us to despair because He knows He is our hope.
- God is Sovereign! Because of Him, we have no need to despair over the way our lives turn. There is nothing we can do to make them turn out OUR way. God created us for His purpose and allows our lives to unfold accordingly. He guides and directs us using everything about our lives to glorify Him.
I pray, Lord, You will teach me in this life that I don’t have to toil and strive for my own desires. Help me to be CONTENT with where you have me. To get up each day realizing that all I have to do is to Walk in your Ways. Forgive me for striving to live as the world lives. Help me to work for Your Kingdom here on earth. Help me to REST in You.
