Satisfied
Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended on doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after the wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 2:11
Solomon took time to consider all that he had done in his systematic search.
- He examined his life as a whole, comprehensively and deliberately
- He looked at how much time and effort was spent and what was gained or achieved
- He weighed the outcome with the time and energy expended to see if it was worthwhile
- He looked at the net gain or profit
His conclusion? He was not satisfied.
- Was he expecting more?
- Was he looking for more than tangible accomplishments?
- Would any of this matter when his life was over?
- Did life have more purpose than this?
- Had Solomon given everything he knew to give and still come up short?
Our lives will only have meaning in the context of a relationship with our Sovereign God. Your Spirit, Oh Lord, breathes out life, so unless we know You and are connected to Your Spirit, our lives will be meaningless. Thank you for your work on the cross so we can have joy and satisfaction in life.
