Do Pleasures Satisfy?

I said in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy yourself.” But behold, this also was vanity.
Ecclesiastes 2:1

Chapter 2 is where Solomon moves from considering the importance of wisdom in enjoying life, to different pursuits of sensual pleasure. He begins to test eating, drinking, enjoying friends and entertaining with merry stories, banter and wit.

A good cross-reference is Luke 12:19-20. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.” but God said to him, “Fool, this night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?”

We are told by Solomon that this also was vanity.
