God Satisfies

Why do we constantly look for things to satisfy our wants and desires? I would like a newer house, more reliable car, longer vacation, more lucrative job, and the list could go on and on.

All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
Ecclesiastes 1:8

God knows the one and ONLY thing that will satisfy our longings and it is knowing Him. There is a parallel with dissatisfaction & contentment. The world tells us that “things” will satisfy, so we look all around us and work hard to acquire what our eyes see. Satisfaction is short-lived and soon we see something else we think would make us happy and we do all we can to acquire it. Again, we are not able to satisfy ourselves .

Like Solomon, we search our whole lives to find satisfaction and contentment. But because of Solomon’s power, wealth and wisdom, he goes on a systematic search to try everything he could think of to find happiness. He thought he could figure out the answer and then be able to warn his family and friends that they don’t have to go through what he did. He wasn’t able to find contentment in designing and building everything he wanted, having as many wives as he wanted, or anything else he tried. In the end, he admits that true peace and contentment come when we fear God.
