Not so Perfect
The Amplified version helps to shed more light on the meaning of this verse.
I have seen a limit to all perfection, but Your commandment is exceedingly broad.
Psalm 119:96 (ESV)
I have seen that everything [human] has its limits and end [no matter how extensive, noble, and excellent]; but Your commandment is exceedingly broad and extends without limits [into eternity].
Psalm 119:96 (AMPC)
As humans we have a deep desire to be perfect. Adam and Eve sinned because they wanted to be like God and know everything. We try so hard to be the best at everything and our pride takes a hit when we feel like we don’t measure up. But only Jesus was perfect, so He could be the sacrifice for our sins. Once we accept Him as Savior we realize He doesn’t expect perfection from us. Just our love and adoration of Him as our God.
So perfection does have an end but thanks be to God that His commandments extend without limit into eternity. His commandments set us free! We are accepted by God as we are and He loves us with our imperfections. He clothes us in HIS Righteousness and sees us as righteous through His salvation.
