Stop Searching . . .
I the preacher have been king over israel in Jerusalem. And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom all that is done under heaven. It is an unhappy business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with.
Ecclesiastes 1:12-13
The Preacher viewed everything he thought and felt in his heart and mind through the lens of his great wisdom to figure out the purpose of life. As one who has great wisdom and the desire to apply his wisdom to help mankind you might get the feeling it is a miserable burden that he carries. I believe there are some things about God that we will never know this side of heaven. He keeps these things to Himself for our good and so that we will always know His majesty and desire to worship Him alone.
Despite all the wonderful efforts of Solomon to try and figure it out for us, we all still have questions. Father, how would You have me live so that I have balance? That I might work so as not to be lazy, but would work toward things that further Your kingdom and have contentment and joy in serving You? My life is fleeting, short, only a breath, or a vapor. What should I spend my time doing that would please You, Lord?
The sun rises and sets in beauty. I am reminded each morning and evening of Your steadfast love and care for me. The winds blow continually reminding me of Your presence and Your Spirit in my heart. The rivers and streams flow into the seas, yet the rains keep them ever full. You water the earth as You intended. We benefit from Your tender care. As I am reminded of these things, Father, I see how simple it is . . . I am to live my life in honor and glory to You. I don’t need to try to figure anything out at all. Praise You!
