Wonderful Counselor

As youngsters growing up, we all wonder what the plan is for our life. Why are we here on earth? Many people and things around us affect our plans: our family, our geographical location, our own desires, areas of giftedness and thoughts poured into us by well-meaning friends.

Mary and Joseph had plans for their life. They had grown up in the same area, Joseph had a job and their upcoming marriage was arranged by their parents.

Your testimonies are my delight and my counselors.

Psalm 119:24

What we often don’t realize until we are older and more mature in our faith is that God has a plan for our lives. I remember trying to figure it out and because of immaturity I didn’t understand how to find the answer.

But God has given us a very ordinary means of grace to guide us which is the Bible. God’s Word includes important answers and direction for our lives. If we read the Word in a consistent manner with a heart yielded to the Holy Spirit’s leading, God will direct our steps. He is our Wonderful Counselor. We can go to Him and ask Him to show us the way for our life and then follow the direction He gives us in His Word. It is often more of a day by day following, a willingness to go through the doors He opens with faith, believing He knows what is best for us. It is a total delight to follow Him!
